Securing the Mahoning River Bank After the Big Melt
Back in 2005, the spring thaw hit Youngstown harder than we'd ever seen. I remember the sound of rushing, muddy water tearing at the soil near the Mahoning River. The sudden snowmelt caused massive erosion, leaving a residential construction site in Mahoning Commons wide open. We saw the unstable ground shifting under heavy equipment, creating a massive safety hazard for the neighborhood and the workers. If we didn't get a perimeter up immediately, the entire site faced a total shutdown.
Our crew hauled our heavy-duty temporary fencing out there in the middle of the night to stabilize the perimeter. We didn't just slap panels together; we dug the base deep to handle that saturated, shifting mud. We utilized reinforced chain link to ensure no one wandered near the eroding banks. By sunrise, the site was fully locked down and secure. The developer breathed easy knowing the site met all safety requirements despite the weather.
Demo's team arrived when the ground was still thawing and kept our site safe.
