Securing a muddy cut near the Mahoning after a hard thaw
The first thaw after a rough February hit a job edge in Lower Gibson hard, and the ground near the Mahoning got soft fast. I remember the smell of wet clay and the look of the slope starting to slump after snowmelt pushed water through the site. Our crew got a call because the opening sat close to foot traffic and a neighborhood access path, and the client needed it locked down before somebody wandered into the unstable area. In this part of Youngstown, that kind of erosion turns a small opening into a real safety problem.
We rolled in with driven posts, tied the line tight, and adjusted the fence to follow the uneven grade instead of fighting it. I had our crew brace the low side first, then we set the panels so the wind and runoff wouldn’t shove them out of place. We also kept the walkway clear so neighbors could move around the work without cutting through the hazard. By the end of the install, the site stayed contained and the client had a clean, secure perimeter that held through the next round of wet weather.
I needed it secured right away, and Demo’s crew locked that edge down before it turned into a bigger mess.
